John H. Myles (Football) – A native of Jesup, Georgia, he played football from 1941 – 1943. He was the university’s first Little College All – American in 1942 on the Chicago Defender All – America team. He was an outstanding halfback. He was also captain of the basketball team where he played guard, and was player coach of the basketball team in 1943, and led the team to a 9 – 1 winning record. In 1946 – 47 Myles was head basketball coach at Georgia State College and led the team to a Co – SEAC basketball championship. He also served as head football coach at Savannah State College from 1969 – 1976. He was also head Savannah State College baseball coach from 1969 – 1990 and led the baseball team to its first SIAC baseball championship in 1977. Myles also served as athletic director at Savannah State College from 1985 – 1989. He was inducted into the SIAC Hall of Fame in 1992.
