Ira Jackson (basketball) – A native of Chicago, Illinois, played for the outstanding “Chicago Five” basketball team coached by the legendary Theodore “Ted” Wright from 1958 – 1962 which won 118 games and lost only 18 games. This team won the SEAC conference title for four consecutive years, and the District 6 – A NAIA title for three consecutive years. He was All – SEAC from 1959 – 1962, and SEAC MVP in 1959 – 1960. After an outstanding career at Savannah State, Jackson was drafted by Hawaii of the old American Basketball League.
