Savannah State Graduates 16 Student-Athletes At 199th Commencement

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University graduated 16 student-athletes during the 199th Commencement on Friday, December 10 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.

Among the mix of December graduates were current and former players receiving both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Baseball player Phillip Woullard, Jr. earned his bachelor's degree in management, graduating with magna cum laude honors.

Woullard graduated with two teammates. Bradley Spencer earned his bachelor's degree in mass communications and Luis Torres-Lopez earned his degree in accounting.

From the Savannah State track and field program several stars earned their degree. Djangmah D. Narhmartey received an associate degree in arts while Suheib Mohamed earned his degree in electronics engineering technology.

Former Savannah State track star Amara Davis (Jones) earned her master of science in marine science this fall. Davis was Savannah State's first female athlete to win an individual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship. She went on to run with her native Bahamian National team at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Savannah State football saw five student-athletes graduate this fall. Ravion "Vegas" Hadyon earned his bachelor's degree in computer science technology. Miles Broadnax and Wilkenson Toussaint both received degrees in management, and Bernard Brown earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. Both Harvey King and Kenneth Singleton earned their degrees in homeland security and emergency management.

Imani Williamson from the volleyball program and Kameryon Baker from softball both earned their degree in management.  

Former women's basketball player Ja'Brekia M. Bass received her bachelor's degree in account while current men's basketball player Travaughn Gordon received his degree in interdisciplinary studies. Gordon was also commissioned as an officer in the United States Army National Guard.

Football manager Tynique Woods earned her bachelor's degree in criminal justice, graduating magna cum laude.

Dr. Felicia Bell, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History senior advisor and Savannah State alumna, class of 1998, gave the commencement address at the ceremony.
