SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University baseball player Luke Sanders was recognized as the top undergraduate during the university's 205th Commencement which was held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
Sanders received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering technology with a 4.0 grade point average, graduating with the highest honors possible, Summa Cum Laude.
He became the first SSU student-athlete to have the highest grade point average since Korbin Allan (men's golf) who graduated with a 3.39 grade point average in biology in May 2022.
The Beaufort, South Carolina native was one of 23 current and former SSU student-athletes to receive their degrees.
Also graduating with honors were O'Niece Roberts and Jadon Adams. Both graduated Cum Laude.
Roberts, who was a member of the volleyball team, earned her degree in forensic science and Adams, who was a member of the football team, graduated with a degree in mass communications.
Five SSU athletic programs were represented at the ceremony with 11 football players receiving their degrees followed by five from baseball, three from women's basketball and two each from volleyball and women's track.
Football players Bruce Mattox III and Hudson Primus II both received their Master of Business Administration degrees.
1981 Savannah State alumnus Michael Williams, founder and CEO of Jetaire Flight Systems, LLC, was the guest speaker.
