Harlem Globetrotters To Attempt World Trick Shot At Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Harlem Globetrotters, joined by Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and Savannah State basketball players will attempt a world trick shot Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. on the campus of Savannah State.

The Harlem Globetrotters' Wham Middleton and TNT Lister will be on hand to attempt a shot from the King-Fraizer student center. Middleton, a Georgia native, attended Savannah State where he studied public relations and advertising prior to joining the Harlem Globetrotters.

The event will be part of a day of activities for the Globetrotters during the President's Investiture Week, celebrating newly appointed President Kimberly Ballard-Washington.

The Harlem Globetrotters have strengthened their commitment to filming amazing trick shots in support of World Trick Shot Day, an annual joint effort the Globetrotters have with Guinness World Records.

During the summer of 2021, the Harlem Globetrotters announced a partnership with Savannah State University to create a live event program designed to assist in preparing students for opportunities within the live events industry.

The partnership also includes academic studies through the College of Business Administration's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In the spring semester of 2022, a new certificate will be introduced that is centered around preparing students to work in live entertainment. Eventually, the program will be developed into a degree path.

"What I want to see the students getting out of it is an opportunity for them to enter into management positions when they go into the workforce in this arena," Ballard-Washington said in a press conference over the summer. "It's a play on words, but we're talking about going to work in the entertainment field, either locally or nationally but also having an opportunity for them to be executives when they walk in because they will know additional information that a lot of people working in the industry won't have."

The City of Savannah and Savannah State University have an intertwined history with the Harlem Globetrotters. Several Savannah State basketball players and Savannah natives have joined the Globetrotters in the past.

Crissa "Ace" Jackson was a standout Globetrotter following her career at Savannah State from 2008-2010. Globetrotters' Matt "Showbiz" Jackson, Bruce "Sugar Bear" Capers, TyRone "Hollywood" Brown and the infamous Larry "Gator" Rivers all have both Savannah or Savannah State ties.
