COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Savannah State University Women's Indoor Track & Field Team opened their 2024 Indoor Track season by participating in the Gamecock Opener that was hosted by the University of South Carolina on January 12, 2024 in the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Da'Aliyah Johnson was the top finisher for SSU with a eighth place performance in the long jump. The senior from Macon, Georgia had a leap of 5.46m.
Also competing in the long jump from Savannah State were
Sadrea Mabry and
A'mijya Dudley. Mabry was 20th with a jump of 5.04m and Dudley finished 31st with a leap of 4.52m.
In other events at the meet, Johnson was 42nd in the 60m race with a time of 8.27 and Nadia Mathews was 49th with a run of 8.40.
In the 60m hurdles, Shaniah Daniels placed 20th with a run of 9.36 while Ky'Leigha Robinson was 29th after her run of 9.82.
Ravyn Cystrunk (26.85) was 20th in the 200m race and Mathews (28.26) was 55th.
In the 400m race, Maddison Green placed 33rd with a time of 1:07.71 and MaCayla Moody's throw of 8.93m was good enough for a 28th place finish in the shot put.
Savannah State will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on January to participate in the KMS Invitational.
