Nine Former Student-Athletes Named To MEAC All-Time Teams

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has named nine former Savannah State student-athletes to four All-Time Teams list as part of the conference's 50th year celebration, per a press release from the conference office.

Following over 3,000 votes, Savannah State's Kyle McGowin and Charles Sikes were named to the final 50-man roster of the MEAC All-Time Baseball Team.

McGowin was named the 2013 MEAC Pitcher of the Year, 2013 First Team All-MEAC, 2013 MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer. McGowin, now a relief pitcher for the Washington Nationals, helped lead Savannah State to the 2013 MEAC Baseball Championship, the school's first NCAA Division I title. Sikes was named the 2015 MEAC Player of the Year, two-time First Team All-MEAC (2014, 2015).

Amber Hallman and Torrian Wright were both named to the All-Time MEAC Softball team along with 50 other student-athletes following over 3,000 votes.

Hallman was the
 2012 MEAC Rookie of the Year, two-time First Team All-MEAC (2012, 2015). Wright was three-time MEAC Player of the Year (2014, 2015, 2016); 2013 MEAC Rookie of the Year; three-time First Team All-MEAC (2014, 2015, 2016). Hallman helped lead the Lady Tigers to the 2012 regular season MEAC Southern Division title, the first in the school's history. Hallman and Wright led Savannah State deep into the 2015 MEAC Championship as well.

Savannah State had four players named to the All-Time MEAC Men's Golf Team.

Cedomir Ilic, Kevin Metzger, Brandon Neals and Travis Roe were named to the team. Ilic was the 2012 PGA National Minority Championship medalist. Metzger was named 2015 MEAC All-Tournament. Neals earned 2014 MEAC All-Tournament. Roe was named 2014 MEAC All-Tournament, and had the MEAC's third-lowest round all time (67, 2014-15). 

Abbas Akkbar was named to the All-Time MEAC Indoor Track and Field Team for his collegiate performance in the 800 meter run. He was named a 2020 First Team All-American while running for North Carolina A&T State as a graduate student after finishing his undergraduate work at Savannah State.

The All-Time MEAC Team awards, presented by The Home Depot, were voted on by fans, media representatives, sports information professionals and others.

Savannah State Athletics was a member of the MEAC from 2010 to 2019. During that time, the Tigers won several regular season titles as well as MEAC Championships in a number of sports. The Tigers now compete on the NCAA Division II level in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
