SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State outdoor men's and women's track and field teams hosted 15 opponents in the annual Blue and Orange this past Saturday at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
The Lady Tigers finished in fourth overall with a team score of 68. The Tigers secured fifth place in the team standings with a team score of 59. Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Benedict College won both the women's the men's scoring. Benedict's women's team bested the field of eight with a team score of 153 while the men racked up a total score of 189 to lead the field of nine teams.
Jahvene Walder led the Lady Tigers on the field and on the track. In the field, Walder won the high jump contest with a jump of 1.60m. Teammate
Toni Pellington recorded a 1.54m effort to finish fourth. In the women's long jump
Sadrea Mabry led the Lady Tigers with a 12th place finish and distance of 4.90m. Deneesha Wallace recorded a 7.74m throw in the shot put to finish in 15th.
On the track, Walder led in several events. In the 100 meter hurdles, Walder finished second with a time of 15.22. Teammate Karisma Roberts ran a 16.70 to finish in fifth. In the 400 meter hurdles
Jaylen Sewell finished in second with a time of 1:09.13.
The team of Sewell, Walder,
Danielle Chambers and Simone Johnson won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:07.63. In the 4x100, Sewell, Walder,
Corta Washington and Chambers finished second with a time of 48.60.
Washington led the Lady Tigers in two races. She finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.82 and eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.15. Johnson ran a 2:28.46 to finished fifth in the 800m dash, followed closely by teammate
Kayla Chance who finished sixth with a time of 2:30.19.
The Savannah State outdoor men's and women's track and field teams continue the 2020 season with the Georgia Southern GATA on March 13-14 in Statesboro, Ga.
