NORFOLK, Va. – Forty-nine Savannah State University student-athletes were recently named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner's All-Academic Team, which was released by the conference Monday, with 19 from the women's teams and 30 from the men's team.
On the women's side, five softball, four basketball and three cross county/track and field student-athletes were recognized in addition to two each from tennis, cheerleading and golf squads and one from volleyball.
On the men's side, the football and baseball teams each had 11 members to make the listing followed by four from the cross country/track & field team, two each from basketball and golf squads.
All total, 1,366 student-athletes from the conference's 13 member institutions who achieved academic success during the 2016-17 academic year were recognized. The team honors student-athletes, including sophomores to seniors, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
"I am excited to congratulate the 1,366 student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during this academic school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would like to commend the administrators, athletic academic support staffs and personnel, coaches, institutions, and parents for their contributions to the academic success of these student-athletes."
