Tuggle Named MVP At MBP HBCU All-Star Game

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.- Savannah State short stop Reginald Tuggle took home the Most Valuable Player Award in the fifth annual Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star game which was played on May 31st at Atrium Health Ballpark.

Tuggle was one of three Tigers to play in the game. Tuggle and Brevin Smith were teammates on Team Bill Lucus while pitcher Brayden Thomas was on Team Joe Black.

Team Bill Lucas won the game 12-2.

Tuggle went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run for the winners. In the second inning, he singled to right field while in the fifth he hit a double off the right field wall and later scored.

Smith went to the plate twice and drew a pair of walks. He also pitched in the fifth and sixth innings where he faced ten batters. Smith struck out one, gave up one unearned run, two hits and two walks.

Thomas saw action on the mound in the seventh inning. The first batter he faced grounded out and the second flied out to center field. He struck out the third batter.

The MVP Award for Tuggle was his fifth post-season honor this year. Previously, he was honored with the ABCA/Rawlings Division II All-South Region Second Team, SIAC Freshman of the Year, All-SIAC Second Team and the SIAC All-Tournament Team.

Smith was a member of the 2024 All-SIAC Second Team as a pitcher.

Thomas was a ABCA/Rawlings Division II All-South Region Second Team honoree as well as the SIAC Starting Pitcher of the Year and a member of the All-SIAC First Team.
