Senior kicker Giovanni Lugo proved his might in his final season with 2,028 punting yards, averaging 39.8 a kick with 3 touchbacks. His longest in the 2019 season was a 68-yarder. He drilled 6-of-7 field goal attempts, with his longest measuring in at 49-yards. Lugo averaged 56.3 yards on kickoffs for a total of 2,308 yards on 41 kicks.

Lugo ranked first in the SIAC in punting and 44^th nationally. He’s was also ranked 7^th in the SIAC in field goals per game. Lugo was named the SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 1 after an outstanding performance in a 17-10 win over Morehouse College.

He was named to the 2019 SIAC All-Conference First Team as a punter and the Second Team as a kicker. Lugo was also invited to participate in the 2020 HBCU Spirit of America Bowl. He will graduate with his M.B.A. in December of 2019. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing in Dec. of 2018, graduating Magna Cum Laude.  

During his career at Savannah State, Lugo earned a number of special honors. He was named to the 2019 MEAC All-Conference Second Team and the 2016, 2017 and 2018 MEAC All-Academic Honor Rolls. Lugo transferred to Savannah State from Georgia State in 2015 after graduating from Dacula High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
