SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team will honor eight seniors Thursday for Senior Night as the Lady Tigers (10-18, 7-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) host South Carolina State University (5-21, 2-13) at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
The eight seniors being honored are center
Caprisha Treadwell, guard
Kenyata Hendrix, guard
Taylor-Ashley Shaw, guard
Rhianna Warren, guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss, forward
Charmia Graham, forward
Jeremica Edwards and center
Tiyonda Davis.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to North Carolina Central University 51-58 Monday in Durham, N.C. Davis led SSU with 15 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor, with eight rebounds and three blocks off the bench, while junior guard
Deyja Brown added 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting also off the bench. Edwards added eight point and four rebounds, while Moss added eight points, five rebounds and seven assists.
The Bulldogs hold an 18-11 advantage over the Lady Tigers, but Savannah State has won five of the last seven meetings, including a 60-49 win earlier this season on Jan. 16 in Orangeburg, S.C.
Hendrix leads the team with 11.8 points per game, which ranks 12
th in the MEAC, while graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss is averaging 10.9 points per game. Davis leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game and with 3.7 blocks per game and averages 8.3 points per game, while Edwards is averaging 6.6 rebounds per game and 6.7 points per game.
In conference play, Hendrix leads the team with 12.3 points per game, which ranks tied for 10
th in the MEAC, while Moss is averaging 11.2 points per game. Davis leads the team with 10.0 rebounds per game and with 4.2 blocks per game and averages 9.6 points per game, while Edwards is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game and 7.4 points per game.
Davis ranks fourth in the MEAC in rebounds per game (8.9), which ranks 59
th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and is second in blocks per game (3.7), which ranks third in the NCAA and fourth in the country with 97 blocks. In her career, the Athens, Ga., native holds the school record in the Division I era with 292 career blocks and with 949 career rebounds. She also ranks seventh with 893 career points and fourth with 384 career made field goals. Davis recorded four blocks at Morgan State to give her 92 blocks this season, which set the school record in a single season.
Hendrix holds the school record in the Division I era with 190 career made 3-pointers and is the third Lady Tiger to record 1,000-plus points with 1,213, which ranks second in school history, and ranks second with 422 made field goals.
South Carolina State has lost the eight games with the last win coming at University of Maryland Eastern Shore 67-60 on Jan. 28. The Bulldogs are led by Bryeasha Blair with 17.5 points per game and averages 4.1 rebounds per game, while Brittany Drumgoole averages 11.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game and Jahmia Bradley leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game and averages 7.6 points per game.
The Lady Tigers start the postseason play with the MEAC Championship starting on Monday and finishing Saturday, March 11 with the championship game.
