COLUMBIA, S.C.- Jaliyah Harper scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on Monday night in Savannah State's 84-71 loss to Allen in a game played at Adams Gymnasium.
The senior from Lancaster, Texas also finished the night with five blocks, two steals and two assists.
SSU got off to a slow start, falling behind 14-1 but outscored the Yellow Jackets 8-6 the final 5:13 of the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers found their footing in the second quarter, erasing a 16-point deficit with a 14-0 run to go into halftime down 36-34.
With 3:10 remaining in the third quarter, Savannah State found themselves down by eight but used a 11-2 spurt to go ahead 54-53 with 23 seconds left in the quarter.
Allen took a one point lead with a jumper but a pair of free throws by
Sanai Chisholm with three seconds left gave SSU a 56-55 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets went ahead 60-56 early in the final quarter but a jumper by Saniyah Rice and a tip-in by Harper knotted the score at 60 with 7:36 remaining.
Allen responded with a 15-2 run and Savannah State never recovered.
Ansley Hicks was the only other SSU player in double figures with 13 points. Chisholm and
Makaila Johnson both scored nine points while
Jazmin Thornton, who missed the last seven contests with a injury, had eight points.
Haylee Malcum chipped in seven points and six rebounds, Rice had five points and
Raven Birt added a free throw.
Savannah State (7-15, 6-15 SIAC) will continue their three-game road trip at Tuskegee on February 19.
