SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team (10-17, 7-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) travels to Durham, N.C., to face North Carolina Central University (6-20, 5-9 MEAC) Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to North Carolina A&T State 89-54 in Greensboro, N.C. Senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix recorded a game-high 25 points, while graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss added 19 points and eight rebounds and senior forward
Jeremica Edwards added seven rebounds and six points.
The Eagles lead the series with an 11-8 record, but the Lady Tigers have won five of the last six meetings.
Hendrix leads the team with 12.1 points per game, which ranks 10
th in the MEAC, while graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss is averaging 11.0 points per game. Davis leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game and with 3.8 blocks per game and averages 8.0 points per game, while senior forward
Jeremica Edwards is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game and 6.8 points per game.
In conference play, Hendrix leads the team with 12.9 points per game, which ranks 10
th in the MEAC, while Moss is averaging 11.5 points per game. Davis leads the team with 10.2 rebounds per game and with 4.3 blocks per game and averages 9.2 points per game, while Edwards is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game and 7.4 points per game.
Davis ranks fourth in the MEAC in rebounds per game (8.9), which ranks 61
st in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and is second in blocks per game (3.8), which ranks third in the NCAA and third in the country with 94 blocks. In her career, the Athens, Ga., native holds the school record in the Division I era with 289 career blocks and with 944 career rebounds. She also ranks seventh with 878 career points and fourth with 378 career made field goals. Davis recorded four blocks at Morgan State to give her 92 blocks this season, which set the school record in a single season.
Hendrix holds the school record in the Division I era with 189 career made 3-pointers and is the third Lady Tiger to record 1,000-plus points with 1,214, which ranks second in school history, and ranks second with 421 made field goals.
North Carolina Central is 3-3 in the last six games, including losing the last three games. The Eagles are led by Morgan Jones with 12.9 points per game and averages 3.7 rebounds per game, while Jada Blow averages 6.5 points per game and Deja McCain leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game and averages 5.8 points per game.
The Lady Tigers return home for the home finale and for Senior Night against South Carolina State University (5-21, 2-13 MEAC) Thursday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
