Softball Travels to Durham, N.C. to Face N.C. Central Monday and Tuesday

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (13-17, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) continues on the road to face North Carolina Central University (3-28, 0-3 MEAC) in Durham, N.C., with a doubleheader on Monday starting at 1 p.m. and a solo game on Tuesday at noon.
 
The Lady Tigers swept Bethune-Cookman University last weekend winning 1-0, 4-3 and 4-1 to open MEAC play in Daytona Beach, Fla.  The first game snapped a four-game losing streak for SSU.
 
Junior pitcher Amanda Hallman was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday going 2-0 with a save against B-CU and gave up one run in 16.0 innings pitched scattering seven hits.  The Lady Wildcats hit .132 against Hallman and recorded nine strikeouts.
 
Senior first baseman Torrian Wright leads the Lady Tigers with a .420 (21-for-50) batting average and has recorded 12 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs with a .680 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage, which leads the MEAC and ranks third in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while her batting average ranks third in the conference and 77th in the NCAA.  The McDonough, Ga., native leads the conference and ranks second in the NCAA with 1.09 walks per game, ranks fourth in MEAC and 91st in the NCAA with 0.30 doubles per game and leads the conference in slugging percentage.
 
Junior right fielder Alexis Singleton has recorded a .382 (39-for-102) batting average with 17 runs scored, three doubles, eight RBIs with a .412 slugging percentage and a .400 on-base percentage, while sophomore center fielder Shelby Eccles is batting .352 (25-for-17) with eight runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six RBIs with a .437 slugging percentage.
 
Freshman Cortni Jones is batting .341 (28-for-82) with 19 runs scored, four doubles, seven home runs, 26 RBIs with a .646 slugging percentage and a .367 on-base percentage, while junior left fielder Chasney Jenkins is batting .338 (26-for-77) with 19 runs scored, a double, a triple, a home run and 12 RBIs with a .416 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
 
Singleton's batting average ranks fifth in the MEAC, while Jones' batting average ranks 10th in the conference and her slugging percentage ranks fourth in the conference.  Jenkins' on-base percentage ranks third in the conference and 95th in the NCAA, while Jenkins and Jones' runs scored ranks eight in the conference and Singleton's 39 hits ranks second.  Jones leads the MEAC in RBIs and home runs, while Wright and Hallman ranks fifth in doubles with seven.  Jenkins ranks second in the MEAC with 0.83 walks per game, which ranks 18th in the NCAA. 
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .295 (231-for-784) with 125 runs scored, 37 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs and 111 RBIs with a .413 slugging percentage and a .390 on-base percentage.  The batting average ranks third in the MEAC and ranks 102nd in the NCAA, while the slugging percentage ranks third in the conference and ranks 127th in the NCAA.  The Lady Tigers ranks second in home runs per game with 0.53 in conference and ranks third in earned run average with 4.66.
 
On the mound, freshman pitcher Kasie Johnson leads the team with a 2.43 earned run average giving up 11 earned runs on 29 hits in 31.2 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts, two complete games, including one shutout, while Hallman is sporting a 4.74 ERA giving up 63 earned runs on 109 hits in 93.0 innings pitched with a team-best 64 strikeouts and nine complete games, including one shutout.
 
Johnson's ERA leads the conference and ranks 138th in the NCAA, while Hallman's 64 strikeouts ranks third in the league and her ERA ranks 10th in the conference.  Opponents are hitting .278 against Hallman, which ranks the fourth lowest in the conference.
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are sporting a 4.66 ERA giving up 132 earned runs on 233 hits in 198.1 innings pitched with 100 strikeouts.
 
N.C. Central was swept last weekend with 4-2, 10-1 in five innings, and 7-4 losses to Florida A&M to begin MEAC play and has last the last six games.  The last win was a doubleheader sweep against Maryland Eastern Shore 6-0 and 13-4 in five innings.
 
The Lady Eagles are led by Markell Wylie with a .305 (25-for-82) batting average with 17 runs scored four doubles and two RBIs, while Dominique Wilson is batting .300 (18-for-60) with four runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs and Jenny Tracy is hitting .274 (23-for-84) with six runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
 
On the mound, Breanna Carter has a 1.80 ERA in six appearances giving up three earned runs in 11.2 innings pitched, while Jennifer Allison is 1-11 with a 5.36 ERA with five complete games giving up 62 earned runs on 117 hits in 81.0 innings pitched.
 
As a team, NCCU is hitting .207 (148-for-715) with 75 runs scored, 23 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 61 RBIs.  On the mound, the Lady Eagles are sporting a 5.79 ERA giving up 153 earned runs on 282 hits in 185.0 innings pitched with 124 strikeouts.
 
The Lady Tigers next 10 games are at home starting with a doubleheader in a nonconference battle against Mercer University Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
