Softball Hosts Georgia Southern Wednesday at 5 & 7 p.m. in Home Finale

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (21-20) hosts Georgia Southern University (27-21) in the final home and nonconference game of the season with a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
 
The Lady Tigers have won 11 of the last 14 games, including going 10-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to tie Florida A&M University. 
 
Junior pitcher Amanda Hallman was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week and College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week after going 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run averaging giving up three unearned runs on nine hits with 12 strikeouts.
 
Junior Alexis Singleton leads the Lady Tigers with a .414 (58-for-140) batting average and has recorded 26 runs scored, five doubles and 19 RBIs, while senior Torrian Wright is batting .403 (27-for-67) with 18 runs scored, seven doubles, four home runs and 20 RBIs with a .687 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .653.
 
Freshman third baseman Cortni Jones is batting .381 (45-for-118) with 30 runs scored, eight doubles, eight home runs and 33 RBIs with a .653 slugging percentage and a .424 on-base percentage, while junior left fielder Chasney Jenkins is batting .354 (40-for-113) with 30 runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a home run and 17 RBIs with a .507 on-base percentage.
 
Singleton's batting average ranks fourth in the MEAC and 70th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while Wright's batting average ranks fifth in the conference and 90th in the NCAA and Jones' batting average ranks seventh.  Wright leads the MEAC and the NCAA in slugging percentage and with 1.35 walks per game, while Jenkins is second in the MEAC with 0.83 walks per game, which ranks 19th in the NCAA. 
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .319 (347-for-1067) with 206 runs scored, 54 doubles, nine triples, 21 home runs and 181 RBIs with a .443 slugging percentage and a .418 on-base percentage.  The batting average ranks second in the MEAC and ranks 31st in the NCAA, while leads the MEAC in on-base percentage and 19th in the NCAA and ranks second in home runs per game with 0.51, while SSU ranks third in the conference with 5.02 runs per game, which ranks 92nd in the NCAA, and second in slugging percentage, which ranks 81st in the NCAA.
 
On the mound, freshman pitcher Kasie Johnson leads the team with a 2.89 ERA with a 4-2 record giving up 18 earned runs on 46 hits in 43.2 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts, while Hallman has a 12-9 record with a 3.89 ERA with 13 complete games giving up 74 earned runs on 146 hits in 133.0 innings pitched with 106 strikeouts.    
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are sporting a 4.24 ERA giving up 165 earned runs on 320 hits in 272.1 innings pitched with 154 strikeouts.
 
Georgia Southern has won nine of the last 14 games, but is currently on a two-game losing streak.

The Eagles are led by Lydia Witkowski with a .337 (55-for-163) batting average with 38 runs scored, three doubles, five triples, two home runs and 10 RBIs, while India Davis is batting .320 (31-for-97) with 24 runs scored and Emily Snider is batting .315 (46-for-146) with 27 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 32 RBIs. 
 
On the mound, Dixie Raley leads the team with a 20-10 record and with a 3.34 ERA pitching 21 complete games giving up 82 earned runs on 140 hits with 171.2 innings pitched and 164 strikeouts, while Kierra Camp is sporting a 6-10 record with a 4.93 ERA giving up 73 earned runs on 135 hits in 103.2 innings pitched with 40 strikeouts.
 
As a team, GS is hitting .287 (369-for-1285) with 227 runs scored, 42 doubles, nine triples, 38 home runs and 200 RBIs.  On the mound, the Eagles are sporting a 4.42 ERA giving up 196 earned runs on 328 hits in 310.2 innings pitched with 214 strikeouts.
 
With a berth to the MEAC Championship, the Lady Tigers play their final games against South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C., this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon and a solo game on Sunday at noon.
