SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (18-18) steps out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule to take on Jacksonville University (23-24) of the Atlantic Sun Conference with a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
The Lady Tigers are on a two-game winning streak and has won eight of the last nine games, including a series win against Florida A&M last weekend to move into first place in the Southern Division. The Lady Tigers lost game one 2-1, but bounced back winning game two 12-4 in six innings and game three 3-2.
Junior pitcher
Amanda Hallman was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week Monday. The Kennesaw, Ga., native went 2-1 with a 0.82 earned run average giving up two earned runs on 15 hits with 18 strikeouts.
Senior first baseman
Torrian Wright leads the Lady Tigers with a .414 (24-for-58) batting average and has recorded 16 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and 15 RBIs with a .690 slugging percentage and a .657 on-base percentage, which leads the MEAC and in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while her batting average ranks third in the conference and 69
th in the NCAA. The McDonough, Ga., native leads the conference and in the NCAA with 1.41 walks per game and leads the conference in slugging percentage, which ranks 89
th in the NCAA.
Junior right fielder
Alexis Singleton is batting .398 (49-for-123) with 21 runs scored, five doubles and 13 RBIs with a .439 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage, while freshman third baseman
Cortni Jones is batting .373 (38-for-102) with 25 runs scored, five doubles, eight home run and 28 RBIs with a .657 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage.
Junior left fielder
Chasney Jenkins is batting .354 (34-for-96) with 25 runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a home run and 16 RBIs with a .427 slugging percentage and a .512 on-base percentage, while sophomore center fielder
Shelby Eccles is batting .348 (31-for-89) with 13 runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six RBIs.
Singleton's batting average ranks sixth in the MEAC, while Jones' batting average ranks eighth in the conference and her slugging percentage ranks third in the conference. Jenkins' on-base percentage ranks second in the conference and 51
st in the NCAA, while Singleton's 49 hits ranks tied for third. Jones leads the MEAC in home runs and ranks tied for third in RBIs, while Jenkins ranks second in the MEAC with 0.86 walks per game, which ranks 14
th in the NCAA.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .311 (296-for-951) with 170 runs scored, 47 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs and 149 RBIs with a .434 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage. The batting average ranks second in the MEAC and ranks 48
th in the NCAA, while the slugging percentage ranks second in the conference and ranks 90
th in the NCAA. The Lady Tigers lead the MEAC in on-base percentage and 28
th in the NCAA and ranks second in home runs per game with 0.56, while SSU ranks third in the conference with 4.72 runs per game and fourth with 1.31 doubles per game.
On the mound, Hallman leads the team with a 10-9 record and with a 4.35 ERA, which ranks ninth in the MEAC, giving up 74 earned runs on 137 hits in 119.0 innings pitched with 94 strikeouts, which ranks fourth in the conference and 138
th in the NCAA. Opponents are hitting .275, which ranks fourth in the conference.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are sporting a 4.34 ERA giving up 147 earned runs on 276 hits in 237.1 innings pitched with 138 strikeouts.
Jacksonville has won the last five games, including a doubleheader sweep against Florida A&M 8-6 and 4-0 last Wednesday and swept North Florida last weekend with 4-0, 16-15 and 9-8 wins.
The Dolphins are led by Victoria Brown with a .331 (43-for-130) batting average, 33 runs scored, nine doubles, nine home runs and 33 RBIs, while Danielle Baker is batting .296 (40-for-135) with 30 runs scored, three doubles, three triples, 12 home runs and 30 RBIs.
On the mound, Brown leads the team with a 16-14 record with a save and with a 2.91 ERA giving up 75 earned runs on 181 hits in 180.2 inning pitched, while Paige Curtis has a 4-3 record and a 5.00 ERA giving up 45 earned runs on 103 hits in 63.0 innings pitched.
As a team, JU is hitting .242 (281-for-1161) with 190 runs scored, 39 doubles, four triples, 39 home runs and 182 RBIs. On the mound, the Dolphins are sporting a 4.08 ERA giving up 179 earned runs on 371 hits in 307.0 innings pitched with 135 strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers continue their 10-game homestand with a three-game series against North Carolina A&T State (13-25, 2-7 MEAC) with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a solo game Sunday at noon at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
