Softball Hosts Syracuse in a Doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (10-13) puts its four-game winning streak as SSU hosts Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Syracuse University (9-11) in a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 2 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
 
The Lady Tigers are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Mid-Eastern Athletic opponent Maryland Eastern Shore in a nonconference battle with a 2-1 win in game one and an 8-2 win in six innings in game two.
 
Prior to that, SSU defeated Grambling State 8-0 and Mississippi Valley State 11-9 to finish up the Tiny Laster Tournament.  In the last 11 games, the Lady Tigers are 8-3.
 
Senior first baseman Torrian Wright leads the Lady Tigers with a .484 (15-for-31) batting average, which ranks second in the MEAC, and has added 11 runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs with a .806 slugging percentage nad a .691 on-base percentage.
 
Junior right fielder Alexis Singleton is batting .397 (31-for-78) with 15 runs scored, three doubles and eight RBIs with a .436 slugging percentage and a .413 on-base percentage, while sophomore center fielder Shelby Eccles is also batting .397 (23-for-58) with eight runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six RBIs with a .500 slugging percentage and a .426 on-base percentage.  Singleton and Eccles' batting averages ranks tied for seventh in the MEAC, while Singleton's 31 hits this season is tied for first in the conference.
 
Freshman third baseman Cortni Jones, who was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, is batting .364 (2-for-66) with 17 runs scored, four doubles, a team-best five home runs and 22 RBIs with a .652 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base percentage.  Junior left fielder Chasney Jenkins is batting .356 (21-for-59) with 17 runs scored, a double, a triple, a home run and 11 RBIs with a .458 slugging percentage and a .525 on-base percentage.
 
Jones leads the MEAC with 22 RBIs and with five home runs and is tied for second with Jenkins with 17 runs scored.  Jones also leads the conference with 43 total bases.
 
On the mound, freshman pitcher Kasie Johnson leads the team with a 1.81 ERA pitching two complete games with one shutout giving up four earned runs in 24.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts, while junior pitcher Amanda Hallman, who was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, is sporting a 5-6 record with a 5.25 ERA with seven complete games and has given up 51 earned runs in 69.0 innings pitched with a team-best 49 strikeouts.  Johnson's ERA leads the MEAC and ranks 88th in the NCAA and she has allowed 5.19 hits per game, which leads the conference and 66th in the NCAA. 
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .312 (186-for-597), which leads the MEAC and ranks 55th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and has recorded 111 runs scored, 32 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs and 98 RBIs.  On the mound, SSU is sporting a 4.83 ERA, which ranks third in the conference, giving up 103 earned runs on 149.1 innings pitched with 76 strikeouts.  The Lady Tigers lead the conference in doubles per game with 0.29, slugging percentage of .421, on-base percentage of .414, which ranks 30th in the NCAA, and scoring with 4.83 runs per game. 
 
Syracuse is coming off 1-2 weekend against North Carolina after winning the first game 8-2 in eight innings, but falling 3-1 and 2-1 in the final two games of the series to start ACC play. 
 
The Orange are led by Corinne Ozanne with a .293 (17-for-58) batting average with five runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs, while Sammy Fernandez is batting .281 (18-for-64) with seven runs scored, four doubles, three RBIs and Maddi Doane is batting .273 (15-for-55) with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs.   
 
On the mound, Sydney O'Hara leads the team with a 1.31 ERA giving up five earned runs in 26.2 innings pitched with 24 strikeouts, while AnnaMarie Gatti is sporting a 3-7 record with a 2.24 ERA giving up 19 earned runs in 59.1 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts and Jocelyn Cater has recorded a 5-3 record with a 2.90 ERA giving up 20 earned runs in 48.1 innings pitched with 32 strikeouts.
 
As a team, SU is batting .220 (113-for-513) with 56 runs scored, 17 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 51 RBIs and has recorded a 9-11 record with an ERA of 2.29 giving up 44 earned runs on 134.1 innings pitched with 91 strikeouts.
 
The Lady Tigers stay at home with a doubleheader against University at Buffalo on Friday starting at noon at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
