SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-2) travels to Kennesaw, Ga., to face Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Kennesaw State (0-4) Saturday at noon.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to Iowa State 74-51 Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa. Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss led the Lady Tigers with 13 points and added three assists, while senior center
Tiyonda Davis added 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor with four rebounds and three blocks. Senior forward
Jeremica Edwards added nine rebounds and six points, while senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix added nine points, four assists and two rebounds.
Davis leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with 11.8 rebounds per game, which ranks 17
th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and also ranks first in offensive rebounds (5.0) and defensive rebounds (6.8). The Athens, Ga., native also ranks second in blocks per game with 4.0, ranks 4
th in the NCAA.
Hendrix needs four made 3-point field goals to set a school-record in the Division I era. The Carrollton, Ga., native has recorded 150 career 3-pointers, ranks sixth with 931 points, 11 points from fifth place, and fifth in field goals made with 330.
Davis became the second player in school history in the Division I era to record 200-plus blocks in a career. The Athens, Ga., native has recorded 211 career blocks and trails first place by 13 blocks. Davis already holds the school record with 765 career rebounds and ranks ninth in made field goals with 315 and ninth in points with 719.
Kennesaw State has lost all four games this season with losses to at Vanderbilt (86-54), Jacksonville State (65-59), Georgia Tech (86-49), at Georgia State (62-59). The Owls are led by Allison Johnson with 13.8 points per game and with 7.5 rebounds per game, while Clara Young is averaging 13.3 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game.
The Lady Tigers return home for a three-game homestand starting with Jacksonville University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Tiger Arena.
