Box Score

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State women's basketball team rolled to their 10th Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win on Monday, behind a stellar outing from the Lady Tigers' sixth woman.

Senior Jasmine Norman poured in 19 points to lead the field, as SSU improved to 15-10 on the season with a 77-55 win over Florida A&M. Since the beginning of the 2013-14 season, SSU is 19-5 in Tiger Arena.

The Lady Tigers have now won 11 of their last 13 games, and are on a season-high five game winning streak.

The No. 1 scoring offense in the MEAC (64.0 average) again proved why, as three other Lady Tigers joined Norman in double-digit scoring. Senior Bria Dorsey raked in 16 points, followed by Tiyonda Davis with 15, and MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Ezinne Kalu scored 12.

Savannah State shot 53.7 percent from the field. It was only the second game in which the team has shot better than 50 percent from the field; they won both. The Lady Tigers registered 14 steals as a team on the night. SSU is ranked third in the nation in steals per game.

The Lady Tigers opened strong with a big run in the first seven minutes. Kenyata Hendrix scored on a fast break layup to lift SSU to a 3-1 lead with 13:26 to play.

Florida A&M, however, continued to fight. In the waning minutes of the half, they opened an 8-0 run to cut SSU's lead to 27-21 with 3:52 to play. Taneka Rubin and Dawn King both hit 3-pointers in FAMU's largest run of the game.

SSU responded with an 8-0 offensive spurt of their own, to push back out to a double-digit lead. Kalu dropped two good free-throws with 1:19 left in the half to lift SSU to a 35-21 advantage.

Davis sank a layup in the final minute to send SSU to the locker room with a 37-23 lead. Savannah State is 12-2 this season when leading at the half. The Lady Tigers shot 58.3 percent from the floor in the opening period. FAMU managed a 30.0 percent clip from the floor.

Florida A&M opened a back-and-forth over the subsequent 10 minutes. Off the bench, Rhianna Warren sank a layup on a fast break to give SSU their first 20 point lead of the game, 61-40. Four minutes later, Norman edged the Lady Tigers into their largest lead of the game on a fast break layup, for a 68-45 score.

Savannah State returns to the court this Saturday. They travel to Orangeburg, S.C., to take on South Carolina State. In the team's first meeting this season, SSU edged out a 61-53 win over the Lady Bulldogs in Tiger Arena.

In pregame ceremonies, Kalu was honored for reaching the 2,000 career point's milestone.
