Biography
2013-14: Kalu topped her fourth year at SSU with 516 total points, averaging 16.1 a game. She played in 32 games, starting in 23. She led the team in points, scoring average, field goals made (168), 3-point field goals made (35), free-throws made (145), assists (108), steals (85), and minutes (29.9). The Newark, N.J. native returns for her fifth and final year, after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2012-13 season. She was the first women’s basketball player in Division I history to score more than 1,000 career points. Kalu currently has 1,607 career points, averaging 16 points per game over her career. She’s played in exactly 100 games as a Lady Tiger, racking up 3,219 minutes on the court.
2012-13: In her junior year, Kalu suffered a season ending injury in the 12th game of the season against the University of Florida. Despite the shortened season, Kalu finished the campaign leading SSU in scoring with 13.4 points per game, and in field goal percentage (.526). During the offseason Kalu made a complete recovery and returns to lead the Lady Tigers in the 2013-14 season.
2011-12: Kalu emerged as the team point’s leader again in 2011-12 with 529 points (3rd in the MEAC). Kalu led the team in several different categories, including: scoring average (17.6 avg/g), field goals made and attempted (160-500), 3-point field goals made and attempted (42-192), free throws made and attempted (167-233 – 11th in MEAC FT percentage), assists (83-11th in MEAC), and steals (82). She broke her own career record for most points in a single game on November 11 against North Florida, scoring 35. Kalu was nationally ranked 37th (300 ranked) in steals per game.
2010-11: Kalu started in all 26 games this season and finished as the leading scorer with a total of 401 points. Kalu led the team in several categories including points (15.4), steals (80) and assists (76). She was fourth on the tea m in rebounds (84) and recorded a total of five blocks this season. Kalu had a career high of 34 points against Morris College on February 10, 2010. She also recorded three assists and seven steals that same game. Ranked 15th nationally in steals with 3.1.
