SAVANNAH, Ga. – After suffering their first no-hitter in two years on Tuesday, the Savannah State softball team avoided the shutout in the closing game of a series with the University of Arkansas on Wednesday. Savannah State fell, 1-14, to the Razorbacks in a five inning game at Lady Tiger Field.

The Razorbacks scored a single run in the first inning on a wild pitch. Leading 1-0 into the third, Arkansas put up seven runs on two hits. Nicole Schroeder led the offensive for the Razorbacks with a 4-run home run, scoring Chloe Oprzedek, Stephanie Canfield, and Devon Wallace who were all walked.
Arkansas added three runs in the fourth and the fifth innings on a combined three hits and one costly SSU error. Schroeder led the Razorbacks at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Chelsea Cohen garnered her 10
th pitching win of the season for Arkansas after five innings of work. She allowed one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts.
Making her first appearance since March 2, SSU freshman
Amanda McDowell was tagged with her fifth loss of the season. McDowell pitched five innings, allowing 14 runs (13 earned) on six hits with 11 walks and two strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers take nine days off before returning to action next weekend. Savannah State opens Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play in Tallahassee, Florida against Florida A&M on March 29. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
