Lady Tigers Drop Doubleheader At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- It was a meeting between the SIAC and the Peach Belt as Savannah State played Flagler in a non-conference twinbill on Tuesday afternoon at Flagler Field.

The Saints came out on top in both contests by scores of 8-0 and 8-0.

In the first game, the Lady Tigers  offense struggled against Flagler's pitching which resulted in SSU not getting a hit.

Despite not getting a hit, Savannah State had three players to reach base. 

Ambria Guye was issued a walk in the first inning while in the top of the second, Caliegh Powell was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base on a passed ball. Two batters later, Carissa Ball drew a walk to put runners on first and second but SSU was not able to score.

Flagler scored a run in the bottom of the first and added four more in the bottom of the second for a 5-0 lead. The Saints scored another run in the third and sent two runners across home plate in the fifth for the final runs of the game.

Nia Fisher was tagged with the loss. In her 4.2 innings on the mound, Fisher gave up nine hits, eight runs and seven walks while striking out three.

Savannah State managed one hit in the second game, a single by Ariana Battle in the top of the top of the third.

Neveah Ford reached base in the first inning because of a throwing error and Kennedy Alsbrook was hit by a pitch in the top of the fourth.

Flagler scored at least one run in every inning, including two in the second and three in the bottom of the third.

Battle was the losing pitcher for SSU. Battle pitched 4.2 innings and surrendered eight hits, seven earned runs and two walks while striking out two.

Savannah State (15-22, 11-10 SIAC) will close out the regular season on the road in the Sunshine State will they play Edward Waters in a three-game series on April 11-12in Jacksonville.
