JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The offensive struggles continued for Savannah State on Friday in a doubleheader loss to Edward Waters in games played at EWU Field.
Edward Waters won the first game 9-0 and completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the second game.
The two losses dropped Savannah State to 15-24 overall and 11-12 in the SIAC.
SSU did not get a hit in the first game but
Neveah Ford reached base on a throwing error in the top of the first inning and
Ambria Guye drew a walk in the fourth inning.
Savannah State did not help their cause by committing six errors.
Nia Fisher took the loss on the mound, surrendering nine runs, ten hits and five walks while striking out two.
EWU scored a run in the bottom of the first and the game remained close until they added eight more runs in the fourth inning.
Savannah State managed to collect eight hits in the second game and score three times.
Edward Waters scored a run in the first inning but SSU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when
Ansley Hudson and Ford hit back-to-back singles and both scored on a single to center field by Guye.
SSU added another run in the top of the fifth when Hudson singled and scored on a single to left field by Guye for a 3-1 advantage.
Edward Waters scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score and then sent three more runners across home plate in the sixth to pull away.
Guye led the Lady Tigers with three hits and three RBI while Hudson had two hits and scored twice.
Ariana Battle was tagged with the loss. In her four innings in relief, she gave up nine hits, five runs and two walks while recording three strikeouts.
Savannah State will close out their regular season on Saturday against Edward Waters at 1 p.m.
