JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Savannah State senior
Amara Jones finished 11th in the quarter-finals of the 400 meter dash Friday evening with a time of 52.70, in the second day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida.
With the finish, Jones has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9. She will run in the semi-finals of the 400m on Wednesday, June 6.
Jones also qualified for the second heat of the 200m dash after placing 21st in the preliminary heat Friday with a time of 23.95. The quarter-final for the 200m will be run Saturday at 8 p.m.
Savannah State has qualified for the NCAA Regionals every year since becoming Division I, and has had over 30 athletes qualify for the post-season event.
