HAMMOND, La.- Kristy Carlin scored 16 points, had nine rebounds and five steals as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Savannah State 73-60 in the University Center before 317 fans.
Chelsea Hix and Kim Edmonson each came off the bench to add 15 points as the Lions improved to 6-4.
With the game tied at nine, Edmonson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Hix added another as the Lions ran their lead to 18-12.
Southeastern led by as many as 11 in the opening period and led 41-32 at the half.
The Lions shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the first half. Savannah State shot 36.7 percent from the floor in the fist half but hit 4-of-5 3-point attempts.
Southeastern led by 13 early in the second half but SSU was able to trim their deficit to nine. The Lions answered with a 13-4 run which gave Southeastern a 64-46 advantage with 5:30 remaining.
Savannah State strung together a 12-4 run to close their gap to 68-58 with two minutes left but that would be as close as they would get.
Both teams were cold in the second period. Southeastern shot 37.5 percent from the floor while the Lady Tigers shot 33.3 percent.
SSU hit 10-of-11 free throw attempts in the second half and was 16-of-17 for the game.
LaShara Smith had 14 points for Savannah State, who lost their seventh straight and fell to 2-8. Smith hit 10-of-11 free throw attempts.
6-3 freshman Raven Fields scored 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Crissa Jackson also had 10 points and also had two 3-pointers.
