SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State University men's golf team opened their fall schedule on Thursday with a dual match against Savannah College of Art & Design at Crosswinds Golf Course.
The Bees edged SSU 306-317.
Freshmen
Quentin Brooks,
Justin Woods and
Hayden Plybon finished tied for fifth with three others with a score of 79 to lead the Tigers.
Brooks, a Savannah native, shot for par ten times and made a birdie on the 12th hole. On the back nine, Woods, who hails from San Diego, California, shot for par on the 10th, 11th, 15th and 16th holes while hitting birdies on the 12th and 14th holes. Plybon, a Foley, Alabama native, shot for par ten times and made birdies on the second and 18th holes.
Nathaniel Spencer was right behind Brooks, Woods and Plybon with a score of 80 to finish 11th while
Carter Patnaude was tied for 12th with a 82.
Spencer, who calls Wilmington, North Carolina home, had birdies on the 10th and 17th holes while Patnaude, who is from Guyton, Georgia, shot for par six times on the back nine.
Lavelle Teague Jr was 14th with a score of 84,
Xavier Dozier, a senior from Andalusia, Alabama, finished 15th with a score of 89 and
Brooks Garland carded a 91 to finish 16th.
Teague, a frosh from San Diego, shot for par five times on the final nine holes, Dozier shot for par four times on the front nine and Garland,a freshman from Suwanee, Georgia, shot for par six times on the front nine and added a birdie on the sixth hole.
Conner Scott from SCAD was the overall low medalist with a score of 73.
Savannah State will participate in the 40th Annual Thomas W. Dortch HBCU Golf Classic on September 21-23 in Atlanta, Georgia.
