SUWANEE, Ga.- Playing in her first tournament of the season, Savannah State's
Zell Wilson had a top ten finish to lead SSU at the 40th Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Invitational which was sponsored by the Black College Golf Coaches Association and played at the Laurel Spring Golf Club.
In the final round of the tournament on Tuesday, Wilson had a score of 80 to finish tied for ninth. She shot for par 11 times on the day.
Morgan Wilkerson had a second round score of 92 to finish tied for 28. On the back nine, the Jacksonville, Florida native made back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes while shooting for par on the 12th and 16th holes.
Jenna Wilson was 32nd with her score of 94. She shot for par on the first, fifth, 12th and 17th holes.
Corynn Rodney and
Angela Dodson round out the SSU golfers. Rodney, who shot for par three times, shot 100 to finish 33rd while Dodson carded a 103 to come in 35th. She made par on the second, eighth, 15th and 17th holes.
Savannah State finished seventh in the tournament with a team score of 720 (354-366).
Texas Southern won the tournament with a score of 607 followed by North Carolina Central (615), Chicago State (638), Southern (648), Delaware State (650) and Jackson State (651).
SSU will travel to Greer, South Carolina on September 28-30 for the Upstate Intercollegiate.
