ATLANTA, Ga.- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2025-26 preseason all-conference women's basketball teams on Wednesday and the lone student-athlete from Savannah State University to make the list was
Alayah Birch.
Preseason teams are as voted by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
A sophomore guard, Birch averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals last season.
The Charleston, South Carolina native started 15 of the 19 games she played in as a freshman and logged 29.9 minutes per game. She finished the season making 42 percent of her shots from the floor, 22 percent of her 3-point shots and nearly 70 percent of her free throws.
Birch scored in double figures 13 times during the season, including her last six games.
Listed at 5-foot-8, she posted double-double performances twice during the year. Against Kentucky State, she had 12 points and 10 rebounds and against Johnson C. Smith she had a 16 point and 11 rebound effort.
Season-high games include 24 points (Benedict), 11 rebounds (Johnson C. Smith), four steals (Benedict), one block (Clark Atlanta) and 11 made free throws (Benedict).
Savannah State will begin the 2025-26 season on November 15 at home against Barber-Scotia in a exhibition game before starting the regular season on Nov. 17 hosting Trinity Baptist.
