Savannah State Earns 4th Place Team Finish At HBCU Invitational

SUWANEE, Ga.- Savannah State placed fourth in the 40th Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. Collegiate Invitational which wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was sponsored by the Black College Golf Coaches Association and played at Laurel Spring Golf Club in Suwanee.

The Tigers shot 319 in the opening round but took six strokes off their game to improve to 313 in the second round. SSU had a two-day total of 632.

Savannah State was led in the tournament by San Diego, California natives Justin Woods and Lavelle Teague, Jr.

Woods shot 81 in the first round but improved to card a 75 in the final round to finish tied for 11th with a score of 156. He made birdies on the third and 14th holes and shot for par 11 times on the day.

Teague stayed steady during the tournament, shooting 79 on both days for a score of 158. He finished tied for 16th while making a birdie on the third hole and shot for par three times on the first four holes of the back nine.

Nathaniel Spencer was 18th and right behind him in 19th was Brooks GarlandQuentin Brooks finished 22nd.

Spencer shot 78 in the second round. On the final nine holes, he shot for par six times and made a birdie on 16.

Garland had a score of 161 after his 81 in the second round. Like Spencer, he also shot for par six times on the final nine holes.

Brooks made a score of 79 in the opening round but only shot 86 on the second day of action. On the first six holes, he made made birdies on three and five while shooting for par on the first, second and sixth holes.

Miles was the tournament champion with a score of 582. Morehouse shot 600 for second place  while Livingstone was third with a score of 613. Fisk also participated in the tournament.

SSU will participate in the Upstate Intercollegiate in Greer, South Carolina on September 28-20.
