SUWANEE, Ga.- Following the first round of play in the 40th Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Invitational, Savannah State's
Zell Wilson is tied for 7th with a score of 77.
The tournament, which is sponsored by the Black College Golf Coaches Association, is being played at the Laurel Spring Golf Club in Suwanee.
Wilson made par ten times in the opening round of which six happened on the back nine. The freshman from Chicago, Illinois also made a birdie on the sixth hole.
Morgan Wilkerson is tied for 29th with a score of 88,Â
Jenna Wilson is tied for 31th after shooting 93,Â
Corynn Rodney shot 96 and is 33rd andÂ
Angela Dodson sits in 35th after shooting 105.
Wilkerson shot for par six times on the day while
Jenna Wilson made a birdie on the fifth hole and made par three times on the final nine holes (10, 15, 17).
Rodney shot for par four times on the first nine holes and ended the day shooting par six times. Dodson made par on the second and fifth holes.
Of the seven participating teams, Savannah State is the only non-Division I team.
Texas Southern is in first place with a score of 310 followed by North Carolina Central (311), Delaware State (318), Chicago State (323), Southern (327) and Jackson State (334).
