PARIS, Ky.- Savannah State finished fifth in the 2025 SIAC Golf Championship that was held April 21-23 at the Houston Oaks Golf Course.
The Tigers had a three day score of 1012 at the event.
After the first day on the links, SSU found themselves in sixth place with a score of 359 which was three strokes behind fifth place Central State who had a 356.
Mark Greene shot 83 on the first day, making par nine times with key shots on the fifth thru seventh and the 15th thru 18th holes.
Aaron Stocks carded a 86, shooting for par on the first three holes.
Parker Middleton shot 92 while shooting for par five times and
Xavier Dozier recorded a 98. Dozier made a birdie on the first hole but struggled the remainder of the first round.
Greene was tied for 18th after the opening round while Stocks was tied for 22nd, Middleton was 29th and Dozier was tied for 36th.
The following day the Tigers improved their game, shooting a 331 which moved them to fifth place and only four strokes away from Morehouse who was in fourth with a score of 327.
Stocks led the way for SSU with a 78. The freshman shot for par ten times including the first four holes and made birdies on the fifth and 18th holes. Greene and Middleton both ended the day with scores of 83. Greene shot for par four times on the back nine and made a birdie on the tenth hole while Middleton made a birdie on the first hole and shot for par four times on the front nine. Dozier improved to a 87 on the second day of action and shot for par eight times with five of those happening on the final seven holes.
At the end of two days Stocks was tied for 19th, Greene was in 22nd, Middleton was tied for 27th and Dozier was in 35th.
In the third and final round, the Tigers continued to improve, shooting a team score of 322 with Greene, Stocks and Middleton carding a 76, 79 and 80 respectively.
Greene, whose 76 tied his season-best with his score, shot for par seven times in the round and added birdies on the first, fifth and 15th holes. Stocks also had a birdie on the fifth hole and ended the afternoon shooting for par ten times.
On the front nine, Middleton struggled with five bogeys and one double bougie but on the back nine the senior from Atlanta, Georgia shot for par on eight of the final nine holes.
Dozier shot 87 in the final round with five of his nine pars coming on the first, second, fifth, sixth and ninth holes.
Greene ended the championship with a score of 242 (83-83-76) to finish tied for 19th while Stocks was right behind him with a 243 (86-78-79) to finish in 21st place. Middleton was 25th following his score of 255 (92-83-80) while Dozier finished with a score of 272 (98-87-87) to end up tied for 29th.
Spring Hill won the conference championship in the seven-team event with a score of 909 followed by Miles (912), Kentucky State (914), Morehouse (998), SSU, Central State (1050) and LeMoyne-Owen (1116).
Micah Stangebye of Kentucky State shot a 66 in the third round and was the championship low medalist with a score of 214.
The Tigers will conclude their season at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Golf Championship at the legendary Whistling Straits Golf Course in Kohler, Wisconsin May 5th-7th.
