Lady Tigers Drop Twinbill At Coastal Georgia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Ga.- Savannah State broke from their SIAC schedule and took a trip down I-95 to Brunswick to play Coastal Georgia in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at the CCGA Softball Field.

The Mariners won the first game 12-2 and completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory in the second game.

Coastal Georgia scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and after a scoreless second inning, they broke the game open with 11 runs off seven hits in the third for a 12-0 advantage.

Savannah State scored both of their runs in the top of the fifth.

Neveah Ford reached base on an error by the pitcher and then stole second and third. After Ansley Hudson drew a walk, a ground-out by Ariadna Diaz-Jimenez allowed Ford to score. Ambria Guye reached base on an error by the first baseman which allowed Hudson to cross home plate.

The Lady Tigers had four hits in the game and left five runners on base.

Hudson was tagged with the loss, pitching two innings and giving up one run and five walks.

In the second contest, SSU was again held to just four hits.

The Tigers had their chances to score but came up empty.

Hudson and Ford led off the first inning with back-to-back singles but could not get a runner across home plate. Carissa Ball led off the second inning with a double but was eventually thrown out, trying to steal third. SSU also left runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings.

Ariana Battle was the losing pitcher. Battle surrendered eight hits, three earned runs and five walks while striking out two.

Savannah State (11-16, 7-8 SIAC) will return to conference play on March 29-30 when they take on Allen in a three-game series at the SSU Softball Field.
