Savannah, Georgia-The Savannah State women's basketball squad is set to attack postseason play as the Lady Tigers participate in the 2025 SIAC Basketball Championships presented by Cricket. The conference set up a new format this year's postseason play as the top seeds in each division will receive first round byes and automatically advance to the quarterfinal rounds. Seeds #2, #3, & #4 will host Opening Round contests on their respective campuses. The winners of the Opening Round games will then move to Atlanta for the Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Final Rounds of the single-elimination tournament, on the campus of Morehouse College.
The Orange and Blue will be the East Division's #4 seed in the Women's Bracket and will host West Division #5 seed Kentucky State in an Opening Round on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm inside Tiger Arena. This will be the second time that the Lady Tigers and Lady Thorobreds have met on the floor this season, with Kentucky State taking a 68-63 victory over Savannah State on November 30th at the Exum Center in Frankfort, KY. Amani Hamilton and
Alayah Birch both had double-doubles for SSU with Hamilton finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Birch contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Savannah State brings the conference's fifth ranked scoring this season, averaging 62.7 points per contest, and ninth ranked scoring defense, allowing 62.6 points per game. Conversely, Kentucky State is 10th in the league offensively at 58.8 points per game, and are 14th in scoring defense, allowing 69.7.
Senior guard
Mya Byrd is seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game and is also shooting .291, good enough for fifth in the league. For Kentucky State, Naja Fenelon leads Kentucky State in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game.
