SAVANNAH, Ga.- After missing the SIAC Softball Championships last season, Savannah State have qualified for the 2024 tournament.
The Lady Tigers had a 9-15 conference record during the regular season and edged out Clark Atlanta and Benedict for the final spot in the SIAC East who both had 7-17 SIAC records.
Savannah State (14-27) will be the fourth seed coming out of the SIAC East.
As a team, SSU has a .281 batting average to go along with their 5.84 earned run average on the mound. The Lady Tigers have a .904 fielding average but have also made a league-high 110 errors.
Several Savannah State players can be found among the conference leaders in the statistical rankings.
Freshman
LaTaviona Parke is ranked second in doubles (15) and slugging percentage (.706), third in triples (3) and on base & slugging percentage ((1.183), sixth in batting average (.404) and seventh in on base percentage (.477).
Parke also leads SSU in hits (44), RBI (34) and home runs (4).
Milani Dunning is tied for third with Parke in triples (3), sixth in walks (21) and tenth in runs scored (34).
Ziahya Griffin and
Madison Starling-Martin both are ranked in the top ten with 19 walks apiece. Starling-Martin also leads SSU in stolen bases with 24.
Rosa Carnesale is eighth in innings pitched (114.2) and
Zarria Smith is right behind her in ninth with 103.1.
Smith is ranked eighth in strikeouts (76) and seventh when it comes to having batters looking when they strike out with 21.
The SIAC Softball Championships will be played Monday, April 29, 2024 - Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Columbus, Georgia at the South Commons Softball Complex.
