Neveah Ford helped Savannah State split a doubleheader with Clark Atlanta on March 24, 2024 at games played at the Savannah State Softball Field.
Ford had two hits and scored twice in SSU's 6-4 win in the first game and had a hit, scored twice and stole two bases in the second game which was won by the Panthers, 17-9.
In the first game, the Lady Tigers opened the contest with five runs in the first inning.
Milani Dunning hit a single and scored when
Neveah Ford singled to the pitcher. A double by
LaTaviona Parke brought home
Neveah Ford and after
Haley Carol drew a walk,
LaTaviona Parke scored on a ground-out by
Ziahya Griffin.
Haley Carol scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
Madison Starling-Martin,
Kayla Ragins and
Rosa Carnesale all drew walks and
Madison Starling-Martin scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-0.
In the second inning,
Neveah Ford hit a single and scored on a ground-out by
Haley Carol for a 6-0 advantage.
Clark Atlanta cut SSU's lead in half by scoring three times in the fifth inning and then made the score 6-4 with a run in the top of the sixth.
Savannah State ended the game with five hits but left eight runners on base and made three errors.
LaTaviona Parke and
Ziahya Griffin hit doubles for SSU and
Kayla Ragins stole a pair of bases.
Rosa Carnesale was the winning pitcher.
CAU had six hits in the game and stranded ten runners on base.
Myia Lambert had two hits and two RBI for the Panthers and Coreya Quarterman was the losing pitcher.
In the second contest, it was Clark Atlanta who scored five times in the first inning.
Miliani Dunning led off the bottom of the first with a walk and
Neveah Ford was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second base. A ground-out by LaTviona Parke allowed Miliani Dunning to score and following a walk issued to
Haley Carol,
Neveah Ford stole home to slice CAU's lead to 5-2.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning with SSU's score being a result of Miliani Dunning's single down the right field line allowing
Phaedra Smith to score.
Clark Atlanta expanded their lead with four runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth for a 12-3 edge.
The Panthers went ahead 15-3 in the top of the fifth but SSU (10-17, 6-6 SIAC) battled back with six runs off four hits to make the score 15-9.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Neveah Ford hit a single while
LaTaviona Parke and
Haley Carol drew walks to load the bases for
Ziahya Griffin who hit a two-run single that brought home
Neveah Ford and
LaTaviona Parke.
Kayla Ragins followed with a RBI single that sent home
Haley Carol.
Ziahya Griffin and
Kayla Ragins would score on wild pitches and
Phaedra Smith drew a walk and scored on a single to right field by
Caleigh Powell.
CAU would close the game with a run in the sixth and seventh innings to get the victory.
Ziahya Griffin had two RBI,
Phaedra Smith scored twice and
Caleigh Powell had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
Madison Starling-Martin was the starting pitcher for SSU.
Kayla Ragins and
Rosa Carnesale also saw action on the mound.
Johannas Bentley had five hits for the Panthers (11-25, 3-11 SIAC).
