Savannah, Georgia-After opening the 2024-25 season last weekend with two games on the road, the Savannah State women's basketball squad will open the home portion of their schedule on Thursday evening with a non-conference matchup against Trinity Baptist College. Tip-off is slated for 7:00pm inside Tiger Arena, admission to the contest is free, and SSU Athletics is calling for all fans to wear blue as part of a "Blue Out" to support the Lady Tigers.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday evening's matchup will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Lady Tigers and Eagles, in a series that started in 2013. Savannah State has a 3-0 series lead over Trinity Baptist with the Lady Tigers eclipsing the 100 point mark in their last two meetings with TBC, including a 114-64 home victory last season.

Cedric Baker's Lady Tigers enter Thursday's home opener with a 1-1 record after participating in the SIAC/CIAA Challenge last weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. SSU opened the season with a solid 57-36 win over Elizabeth City State last Saturday, but came out on the short end of a 75-71 overtime decision to Johnson C. Smith.Â
Through two games, SSU is averaging 64 points per contest, while conceding 55 points to opponents.
Mya Byrd is leading the offensive attack for the Lady Tigers so far, posting double digit efforts in two games. The Ashburn, Georgia senior had a 22 point effort against ECSU, and followed that up by posting 18 points against JCSU. At present, Byrd leads the SIAC in three-point shooting, with a .600 percentage from the bonus sphere.
PREVIEWING TRINITY BAPTISTÂ
The Jacksonville, Florida based Eagles are looking for their first victory of the young 2024-25 season as they come into Thursday's matchup 0-4. Trinity Baptist is a member of the South Region of the National Christian College Athletic Association at the Division II level.
In the Eagles last action, TBC dropped a 92-47 home loss to HBCU Clinton College on Tuesday evening. As a team, Trinity Baptist is averaging 48.5 points per game, shooting 26.9% from the floor, and connecting on 25.6% of their shots from three-point range. Senior guard Emma Parrish leads the Eagles, shooting 13.5 points per game, while freshman guard Reniyah Clark is not too far behind with 12.3 points per contest.
The Eagles are coached by Alishia Lewis who is in her first season leading the program, but her fifth season overall at TBC after spending the first four years of her tenure as an assistant under former head coach Judy Allen. Lewis was a successful player in her own right, earning Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Honors while at Southern University at New Orleans in 2012-13. Lewis then continued her career at SIAC member institution Spring Hill, where she is a graduate with a bachelors degree in mathematics.
