MACON, Ga,-
Jadon Rountree finished 21st to lead the Savannah State men at the 2024 Cricket Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships that were held October 23. The race took place at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course at Middle Georgia State University.
Rountree as well as the other runners from the SSU men's cross country team all finished the 8k race with personal bet times.
A senior from Fort Worth, Texas, Rountree had a time of 28:41.80.
Nyzaveon Thompson was the second SSU runner to cross the finish line and had a time of 31:16.25 to come in 35th while
Christian Landry's time of 32:12.81 was good enough to place him at 43rd.
Cameron Frails was close behind Landry and came in 46th with a run of 32:49.24.
Rounding out the Savannah State men were
Nehemiah Shanks (66th) who had a time of 35:02.09 and Kaden Christy (87th) who was clocked at 44:55.87.
As a team, the Tigers finished seventh with 211 points.
Morehouse won the men's cross country event with a score of 38 while Central State was second with 88 points. Tuskegee (90) was third, Benedict (98) was fourth and Spring Hill (109) was fifth to round out the top five.
Ahead of SSU was Clark Atlanta who had a score of 147.
Behind Savannah State was Edward Waters (224), Lane (236), Kentucky State (249), LeMoyne-Owen (284), Allen (292), Fort Valley State (337) and Miles (382).
Brian Kemei of Morehouse was the individual winner with a time of 24:14.94.
Paideia Vaughn and
Saniya Swain were the top two finishers for the Savannah State women in their 5k meet.
Vaughn was timed at 25:01.61 and Swain had a run of 25:01.98 to finish 46th and 47th respectively.
Macada McDonald finished 54th with a time of 25:54.73 while
Maddison Green (31:01.98) was 79th and
Aneya Kight (33:17.65) came in 83rd.
Vaughn, Swain, McDonald and Kight all recorded personal best times at the meet.
Savannah State placed 12th with a score of 304.
Albany State won the women's meet with a score of 40, Tuskegee (52) was second and Central State (98) was third to round out the top three.
Other teams at the meet were Benedict (144), Spring Hill (146), Edward Waters (150), Clark Atlanta (180), Fort Valley State (242), Allen (248), Kentucky State (265), Miles (275), SSU and LeMoyne-Owen (314).
Anaya Martin of Tuskegee was the top individual finisher with a time of 19:12.98.
