HARDEEVILLE, SC- The Savannah State University men's and women's cross country teams participated in the 17th Annual Sand Shark Invitational that was held October 12, 2024 at Sergent Jasper Park and hosted by USC Beaufort.

The meet drew teams from NCAA Division I, II and the NAIA.
Â
The SSU men finished 11th with 354 points while the Savannah State women placed 15th with 413 points.
Â
The Tigers were led in the 8k event by
Jadon Rountree and Nyzaveon Thomposn who both had personal best performances.
Â
Rountree had a time of 29:31.5 to finish 68th while Thompson's time of 34:04.1 was good enough for him to finish 96th.
Â
Rounding out the SSU runners were
Christian Landry (99th),
Cameron Frails (100th) and
Nehemiah Shanks (109).
Â
Landry had a run of 34:43.8 while Frails was clocked at 34:45.4 and Shanks at 38:32.4.
Â
The Savannah State men finished one point ahead of Division I South Carolina State at the meet.
Â
Saniya Swain (80th) led the way for the SSU women in their 5k race with a time of 26:52.9 while
Macada McDonald was 92nd with her run of 31:03.8.

Aneya Kight had a time of 36:12.6 to come in 99th while
Paideia Vaughn and
Maddison Green both finished with a time of 36:21.0 to finish 100th and 101st respectively.

Converse was the men's team winner with 27 points and Daren Hinds of Winthrop was the individual winner with a run of 24:57.4. Winthrop was the women's team winner with 37 points and Lauren Beatty of Converse was the individual winner with a time of 18:08.5.
