Lady Tigers Finish Atop Women's Collegiate Golf Championship

Miracle Goolsby Wins Medalist Honors



STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Savannah State women's golf finished atop of the leaderboard at the 28th annual Women's Collegiate Golf Championship, hosted by the Women In Golf Foundation.
 
Miracle Goolsby led the Lady Tigers, earning medalist honors in the NCAA Division II bracket.
 
The Lady Tigers bested the Division II team field and finished runner-up in the overall team leaderboard with a two round 694 (345, 349).
 
This year's 36-hole, stroke play championship was held at the Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., April 25-26.  
 
Competing against a 20-person field of NCAA Division I and II players, Goolsby earned medalist honors for Division II finishing fifth overall with a two round 166. Goolsby opened with an 85 and closed four-strokes better (81) in the second round.
 
Saika Charles finished in sixth with a two-round 167, shooting 81 to open and closing with an 86. Ja'Davia McCallum finished 11th in the overall leaderboard with a 174 (86, 88), followed by Angela Dodsen (187) and Kaila Leonard (271).
 
Chicago State won the Division I bracket and the overall team leaderboard with a two-round 584 (327, 257). Alabama State's Katie Robinson won the Division I medalist honors with a two round 159 (78, 81).
 
The annual Women's Collegiate Golf Championship is the Women In Golf Foundation's flagship event, according to information on their website.
 
The invitational event selects from HBCU women's college teams to participate for a chance to win the Renee Powell Cup, named after the pioneer African-American female professional golfer.  
 
The Women In Golf Foundation donated $40,000 to HBCU Women's Golf Programs in 2022, including the Savannah State's women's golf program. This year's tournament was sponsored by Arcis Golf.
 
Savannah State women's golf close out the 2022-2023 season May 5-8 at the PGA Works Championship in Shoal Creek, Alabama.
