Women's Golf Play In Second PBC Championship

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the second time in program history, the Savannah State women's golf team competed for a conference title.
 
The Lady Tigers played in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship this past week marking their second appearance in a conference championship since joining the conference in 2021. The program competed for 20 years as independent.
 
Ja'Davia McCallum led the Lady Tigers at this year's PBC Championship, finishing 20th overall. She shot a 246 over the three-round tournament, carding an 83 on day one, improving with a 79 on day two—thanks to a birdie on hole four and 10 pars—and finishing with an 84.
 
Miracle Goolsby and Saika Charles finished tied for 25th, both shooting 265. Goolsby carded a 91 in the first round, and closed with an improved 86 and 88. Charles opened with a 94, then ameliorated her score by nearly 10-strokes with an 83 in the second round. She finished with an 88 in the final round.
 
Angela Dodson (291) and Kaila Leonard (367) rounded out the scoring for Savannah State. The Lady Tigers finished sixth with a three-round team score of 1067 (371, 341, 355).
 
Lander University won the tournament with a team score of 923 (310, 304, 309) followed by Flagler College (929), University of North Georgia (931), Columbus State (940) and Young Harris (1010).
 
Lander's Sakurako Tanaka won the individual medalist honors, shooting a three-round 227 (76, 77, 74). Flagler College's Sophie Wheeler finished second by a single stroke, closing with a 228.

The three-round PBC Championship was played at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia from April 21-23. 
 
Savannah State women's golf have two more competitions on the spring calendar. They play in the Women in Golf Championship in Stockbridge, Georgia, April 26-27 and then head to Shoal Creek, Alabama for the annual PGA Works Championship, May 8-May 10.
