Jaden Saunders Named SIAC Golfer Of The Month

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State sophomore Jaden Saunders was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Golfer of the Month in a press release from the conference office Monday afternoon.
 
Saunders shot a stellar third round at the 2023 Gulf Shores Invitational hosted by the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) last weekend to lead his team.
 
He finished with 78 in the third round, after shooting 78 and 81 in the opening rounds to close with a 236—his third round finish helped by a key birdie on 15 and three straight pars. Savannah State finished fourth as a team with a three-round score of 959 (323, 316, 320).
 
The three-round tournament was played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club and featured five HBCU teams—all of them NCAA Division I squads. Savannah State was the only team representing NCAA Division II and the SIAC.
 
Kentucky State junior Micah Stangebye was also named the SIAC Golfer of The Month. He led his team with 74 in the first round and 76 in the second to finish tied for third in the 2023 Klash in Kentucky at the Perry Park Country Club in Perry Park, Kentucky.
 
The Savannah State men's golf team will play a warm-up, dual round with North Greenville in South Carolina on April 4 before heading to the 2023 Cricket SIAC Men's Golf Championship Tournament, set for April 17-April 19.
