Softball Falls To Clark Atlanta In SIAC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State suffered two heartbreaking losses against Clark Atlanta this weekend in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader.

The Lady Tigers fell to 5-14 overall and 5-10 in conference action heading into the back stretch of the regular season.

In game one, Clark Atlanta opened with a five-run first inning for the early lead. SSU tacked one run on in the third, but trailed into the fourth. The Lady Tigers blasted six hits to open the fourth, scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead.

Into the bottom of the seventh inning, Savannah State led 11-7, after tacking on runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh, and needed only three outs to end the game. But Clark opened with three singles, the last of which scored a run. The hits kept coming for the Lady Panthers and so did the runs.

Late in the inning, Johannas Bentley singled through the right side, scoring Jazmin Scott and Sierra Lopez to tie the game up at 11 all. Two batters later, Myia Lambert singled through the left, scoring T'Maja Oges for the walk-off 12-11 win for Clark Atlanta.

Samantha Morales was tagged with the pitching loss in game one, going 6.1 innings. She allowed 12 earned runs on 21 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Kaytrie-ana Bradsahw led SSU at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double. Kylie Rhymer and Carrera each had three hits in the loss.

In game two, Savannah State was looking to bounce back from the tough loss in game one. Down 0-1 into the second inning, Ziahya Griffin led off with a single and got into scoring position and scored on an error. Later, Kayla McDuffie hit a sac fly to score Demonee Miles and Brianna Cox to give SSU a 3-1 lead.

Into the seventh inning, after a solid game from the Lady Tigers they led 5-4, looking to nab a key conference win. Clark's Lopez led-off with a single and got into scoring position on a fly out from Oges. Bentley then doubled, scoring Lopez and Scott who walked, giving Clark a second walk-off win, 6-5.

Alisyn Ferrell pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits with three walks and two strikeouts in the loss. Morales was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead SSU while Bradshaw, Rhymer, and Griffin each had hits.

The third game of the series with Clark Atlanta was postponed due to weather in the Atlanta area. The Lady Tigers traveled back to Atlanta on April 5 to play the final game. They fell 4-15, dropping the series.
