HARDEEVILLE, S.C.- The Savannah State University men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2023 season on October 3, 2023 with a dual meet with the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.
The USCB men defeated Savannah State 22-33 while the USCB women won their 3k meet with a score of 17-38.
Jadon Roundtree led the SSU men in their 4k race with a time of 15:35.1 for a fourth place finish. Alex Lloyd and Kristopher Landry were 6th and 7th with times of 16:34.6 and 16.38.8 respectively.
Rounding out the Tiger runners were Jayden Wilson and
Nyzaveon Thompson. Wilson was timed at 19:17.6 for a 10th place finish while Thompson was right on his heels after being clocked at 19:18.7 to finish 11th.
USC-Beaufort's Jacob Mitchell was the men's winner and had a time of 13:49.6.
Ravyn Cystrunk was the top runner for the Savannah State women with a fourth place finish. The senior from Macon, Georgia was timed at 14:57.2
Other runners for the SSU women were Sadrea Mabry, Maddison Green, Kinya Jackson and Da'Aliyah Johnson.
Mabry finished seventh after crossing the finish line with a time of 17:01.6 followed by Green (17:19.0), Jackson (18:45.5) and Johnson (23:08.6).
The Sand Sharks' Cydney Stevenson was the overall winner in the women's field after being timed at 13:11.3.
Savannah State will compete at the Georgia Southern Fall Classic in Statesboro, Georgia on Oct. 14.
