Savannah State Runs In SIAC Cross Country Championships

MACON, Ga.- The Savannah State University men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on October 20 at Middle Georgia State University's Georgia Premier Cross Country Course.
 
The women competed in the 5k race while the men ran in the 8k event.
 
Both SSU's men's and women's team came in 11th place.
 
In the women's race, Ravyn Cystrunk paced the Lady Tigers with a 27th place finish in the field of 85 runners with a time of 25:20.9. Maddison Green was the next SSU runner to cross the finish line as she finished 34th with a time of 25:36.3.
 
Rounding out the Savannah State women were Sadrea Mabry (30:55.5), Kinya Jackson (31:05.0) and Shaniah McDaniels (33:10.9). Mabry finished in the 62nd spot while Jackson was right behind her at 63rd and McDaniels was 70th.
 
On the men's side, four Savannah State runners had season-best times, starting with Jadon Roundtree who was clocked at 30:51.4 to finish 18th among the 91 runners. Christian Landry (34:26.6) had a season-best time and finished 37th while Nehemiah Shanks (36:52.3) also had a season-best performance and came in 57th place. Landing in at 61st was Jordan Scruggs who had a season-best time of 37:58.2.
 
Alex Loyd was 72nd with a time of 40:51.5 and Jayden Wilson finished 77th after finishing the race at the 42:23.8 mark.
 
The Savannah State women had 256  points and finished ahead of Kentucky State (262), LeMoyne-Owen (355) and Lane (404).
 
Benedict won the women's race with 41 points followed by Central State (77)), Albany State (91), Tuskegee (96) and Clark Atlanta (138) to round out the top five. The individual winner for the women was Benedict's Purity Kibet was was clocked at 20:20.9.
 
The SSU men had 245 points and finished ahead of Lane (262), LeMoyne-Owen (302) and Miles (361).
 
Morehouse was the winner in the men's division with 24 points. Benedict was second with 85 points followed by Central State (103), Spring Hill (144) and Tuskegee (173) to complete the top five teams. Morehouse's Brian Kemi had a time of 25:25.3 to capture the men's race.
