Savannah, Ga. – The Lady Tigers closed out December with rebound wins over Spring Hill and Georgia College, after a rare two-game losing streak at the beginning of the month.

Savannah State will hope to return to full-form in the new year as they host LeMoyne-Owen College in a cross-divisional Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game to open the spring session.

The Lady Tigers began the 2022-2023 season ranked, but the two losses against Anderson on Dec. 10 and Tuskegee on Dec. 15 pushed them out of the rankings. In the SIAC East Division standings, Savannah State leads with a 4-1 conference record. Tuskegee leads the West Division with a 6-1 mark.

Savannah, Ga. – The Savannah State men's basketball team open the new year with another tough SIAC battle, hosting top-ranked LeMoyne-Owen in a cross-divisional game.

Savannah State has had a surprising season thus far. The reigning SIAC Champions have lost games they statistically should have won and won games they, statistically, should have lost.

In their last home game, they upset ranked Miles in an overtime thriller. In the final two games of 2022, both road games, they lost to Tuskegee and beat Spring Hill. Savannah State (3-2) is in second place in the SIAC East Division, trailing Fort Valley (5-1).

The Tigers open up a four-game homestand with today's match. They will host a total of seven SIAC games in January, before hosting the SIAC Tournament in late February.

LAST GAME
Coming off a 20-point loss to Tuskegee on Dec. 15, the Tigers bounced back with a big 71-66 win over Spring Hill on Dec. 17 to close out the 2022 calendar year. Eleik Bowles led the scoring, as he has been apt to do this season, with 28 points. Za'Khari Cobb put up 15 in the win as well.

PLAYER OUTLOOK
#30 Eleik Bowles has topped most of the stats this season for Savannah State—putting away a career-high 40 points in a win against Flagler. Bowles is averaging 16.7 points a game and leads the team in field goals made (60), three-point field goals made (12), rebounds (39), steals (13), and minutes (31.3/game).

#2 Ayjay Plain is having a strong season as well, putting up 9.9 points a game. He leads the team from the charity strip, with a .526 free-throw percentage and 20 made shots. #11 Za'Khari Cobb is averaging 8.4 points while freshman #10 Zion Davis is putting away 5.9.

LAST GAME VS. LEMOYNE-OWEN
In mid-December 2021, Savannah State opened up against LeMoyne-Owen with the best start of the young season, holding on for a 69-56 win in Tiger Arena. The upset win gave the Tigers some hope into the second half of the season, en-route to their SIAC Title in March.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
LeMoyne-Owen has a very good team this season. They are 10-4 overall and lead the SIAC West Division with a 5-2 conference record. Early in the season, they beat Gulf South Conference (GSC) team Delta State by a lot, and skimmed out a win over Virginia Union. In November, they beat 2021-2022 SIAC Championship runner-up Benedict, 82-79.

The Magicians are led by #2 Gjerard Wilson, who is averaging 12.5 points a game while #3 Andrew Anderson is putting away 12.2. #20 Micah Evans is scoring 11.9 points a game this season.
