Softball Splits Day One Of SIAC Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JASPER, Ala. – Savannah State softball split their two games on Thursday at day one of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover in Alabama.
 
To open the day, the Lady Tigers dropped a close game to Kentucky State, 3-5. Jalexia Wright led the Lady Tigers from the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Da'Ondalyn Simmons went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the loss.
 
Savannah State bounced back in the next game against LeMoyne-Owen College with a run-rule 17-3 victory. Casey Sims picked up her first pitching win of the season for the Lady Tigers as well. Sims pitched 5.0 innings, with two earned runs on three hits, three walks and eight strikeouts.
 
The Lady Tigers opened with a two-run first inning for the lead. LeMoyne-Owen answered in the top of the second with two runs of their own to tie it up. But Savannah State broke the tie quickly in the bottom of the frame. The Lady Tigers racked up eight runs on four hits, taking advantage of two errors for a 10-2 lead into the third.
 
Savannah State tacked on five more runs on four hits in the third inning and two more in the fourth for the final 14-point advantage. Savannah State registered 13 hits in the win including a double from Kayla McDuffie and a triple from Simmons.
