Savannah State Hires Megan Griffith To Head Softball Program

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University has named Megan Griffith the new head softball coach. Griffith becomes the fifth head coach of the softball program following a nationwide search.

Griffith's appointment comes after 14-year veteran head softball coach Jose Gonzalez resigned in December, 2021.

Griffith comes to Savannah State from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where she served as the lead assistant coach. In 2021, the team earned its first winning season since 2014.

Prior to George Mason, Griffith coached at the University of California San Diego for two years where she served as an assistant coach and led hitting and pitching instruction.

The 2019 UCSD team won the regular season conference championship, the NCAA Division II Super Regional Championship earning a trip to the Division II World Series. 

Griffith played NCAA Division I softball at Middle Tennessee State (MTSU) where she was an infielder and academic All-American. She earned her bachelor of science in exercise science from MTSU and a master of sciences in sports management from George Mason University.

Savannah State softball opens the 2022 season on Feb. 11 on Lady Tiger Field. They host the University of Pikeville in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
