Indoor Track Tigers Run At Bulldog Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Savannah State men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the two-day 2022 Bulldog Invite, hosted by Samford University this past weekend.
 
Leading the Tigers on the track was freshman Porter Winfred who set a new personal best in the 60 meter event, twice. In the preliminaries on day one, Winfred ran a personal best 6.84 to qualify for the finals. In the finals, he finished seventh with another personal best, running a 6.77.
 
Andre Valcin finished sixth in the 400m on day one with a time of 49.47. On day two, he ran a 50.00 to finish in 18th place.
 
In the 800 meter dash on day one, Kelvin Jackson ran a 1:59.22 to finish 20th, followed by teammate Daniel Ogunderu who ran a 1:59.88. In the 60m hurdles, Kyzaveon Thompson ran an 8.41 to finish sixth in the 60 meter hurdles.
 
The relay team of Valcin, Daeshaun Logan, Jackson and Ogunderu ran a 3:28.18 in the 4x400 to finish in third place. Just behind them was the team of Anthony Tuggle, Porter, Solomon Mitchell and Darryl Wiltz who ran a 3:34.93 to finish sixth.
 
Logan led the Tigers in the field events. He finished fourth in the high jump with a distance of 1.95m on day one. On day two, Logan recorded a 1.85m to finish in 13th.
 
In the triple jump, Mitchell led the Tigers with a ninth place finish after a 12.60m effort on day one. On day two, he recorded a 12.35m jump to finish in 17th place. In the long jump, Ti'an Rice finished 12th with a 6.01m jump while Mitchell landed a 5.72m effort to finish 14th.
 
Jamaal McKinney finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 13.51m on day one. On day two, McKinney finished 19th with a shot of 12.87m. Tony Roundtree finished in 13th place with throw of 12.07m on day one.
 
Roundtree and Braxton Chadwick competed in the weight throw as well. Chadwick finished in 15th place with a 10.64m throw while Roundtree finished in 16th place with a 10.63m.
 
The Lady Tigers were led, on day one, in the field by returner Toni Pellington. Pellington finished seventh in the high jump with a 1.58m effort. Jahvene Walder was right behind her with a 1.58m jump as well, finishing in 10th place.
 
In the long jump, on day one, Da'Aliyah Johnson and Sadrea Mabry led their preliminary heat to reach the finals. Johnson recorded a 5.51m jump to finish in fifth while Mabry had a 5.37m jump to finish in eighth.
 
Johnson recorded a 10.99m jump to finish seventh in the triple jump on day one. Mabry finished 14th on day two in the triple jump event with an 11.12m effort.
 
On the track, Kayla Chance ran a 2:21.23 in the 800m finals to finish 17th with teammate Simone Johnson just behind her with a time of 2:22.26. Walder ran a 9.57 in the 60 meter hurdles to finish 20th.
 
Savannah State continues the indoor track and field season with a visit to the University of South Carolina on Friday, Feb. 18 and the UOFSC Indoor Open.
