Savannah State Golf Teams Collect Hardware To Open Spring Season

MOBILE, Ala. – Savannah State men's and women's golf opened the spring season this past weekend with a trip to the 2022 Wildcat Mardi Gras Invite, and scored two pieces of hardware.

In the individual race on the women's side, Savannah State's Ja'Davia McCallum claimed second place with a two-round total of 168. McCallum opened with an 85 and improved in the second round with an 83. She finished just behind medalist Hope Harrell (155).

Miracle Goolsby finished tied for seventh after a two-round 176 (89, 87). Kaila Leonard rounded out the Savannah State Lady Tigers team with a 283.

The Savannah State men's golf team brought home the third place trophy with a team score of 629. They opened with a 319 and improved in round two with a 310, finishing behind Meridian Community College (596) and Coastal Alabama Community College (596).

Leading the Tigers was returner Nicholas Macsuga who tied for seventh place overall with a two-round score of 153. Macsuga opened with a 78 and improved in the second round, shooting a 75.

Korbin Allan opened with a 79 and improved as well with a second round 75 for a 154, finishing tied for 10th. Todd Norman (158), Devin Smith (165), and Marke Greene (172) rounded out the Savannah State team scoring.

Ethan Dyess from Meridian Community College won the individual medal with a 145 (75, 70).

Coastal Alabama Community College won the men's side with a team score of 596, followed by Meridian Community College (596). Bishop State Community College (690) finished fourth, followed by Northeast Alabama Community College (697), Morehouse College (718) and LeMoyne-Owen College (773).
